Rain is a simple sound. Will likes to listen to rain on asphalt, curled up in a battered old chair with a cuppa and a novel. The Once and Future King, this week. He likes Merlyn especially, because he can almost hear Merriman remarking on its inaccuracies disapprovingly. “We did not have spectacles in those days.” He would tell Will in all seriousness, “And I certainly did not have a talking owl.” Will likes to listen to the rain and remember other sounds and other voices, because he so rarely hears any except his own anymore. Rain sounds like memory.
